The Nigist Kemis embraces the ultimate expression of Ethiopian royalty. Named after the Amharic word for “queen,” this Habesha kemis is a regal masterpiece that honors the enduring strength and effortless beauty of Ethiopian women.

Adorned with a striking vertical panel of hand-woven embroidery featuring traditional geometric motifs that represent identity, values, and heritage. The embroidery uses deep rust and shimmering gold threads, colors often associated with prestige, courage, and celebration.

Crafted from high-quality, authentic ivory Menen cotton, a hand-loomed fabric known for its soft texture and light, breathable feel. The dress features a floor-length, flowing skirt and an elegant neckline, designed to connect the wearer with the strengths of their foremothers.

Given its queenly name and design, the Nigist Kemis is the premier choice for Habesha weddings, Melse ceremonies, and holidays.

This piece is part of our custom-made and ready-to-wear collection. You can select a standard size or provide your unique measurements at checkout for a tailored, one-of-a-kind fit.

Size Guide How To Measure

For the most accurate results, measure yourself while wearing the undergarments you plan to wear with the dress. Stand straight with your feet together and use a flexible measuring tape.

  • Chest/Bust: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, ensuring it stays parallel to the ground. Keep the tape snug but not tight.
  • Waist: Measure around your natural waistline, which is typically the narrowest part of your torso (about an inch above your belly button). To find it, bend slightly to the side; the crease that forms is your natural waist.
  • Hips: Measure the fullest part of your hips and buttocks. This is usually about 7–9 inches below your natural waistline.
  • Shoulders: Measure the distance between the outer edges of your shoulders, following the natural curve of your back from one shoulder point to the other.
  • Sleeve Length: With your arm slightly bent, measure from the center of your back neck, over the point of your shoulder, and down to your wrist.
  • Length (Waist to Ankle): Start at your waistline and run the tape measure straight down the side of your leg to your ankle bone. This measurement is essential for determining the correct hemline for full-length dresses or gowns.

Pro-Tip: If you are between sizes, it is generally safer to size up for a more comfortable fit or choose based on the measurement that is most critical for the specific dress style (e.g., the bust for a fitted bodice or hips for a mermaid-style dress).

If you prefer a tailored fit, please fill out our Custom Measurement Form here. We will keep these details in your personal file for all your future orders! Alternatively, you can enter your measurements in the “Order Notes” section during checkout.
